Saturday Morning Blues

Sep 25 – Another game day is on it’s way and I woke up ready to play it. Sadly, the game wouldn’t start for another four hours and the ride up to Bonners Ferry took two hours approximately. So I had another hour to just play around on my computer and work on my homework. After that, I packed up my soccer gear and head towards school. For some reason, I packed up two sets of cleats and two sets of shin guards with me and I really had no clue why. Once I got to school, I made a run for the bus, hoping there would at least be one seat somewhere in the back where I could sit. There it was, in the way back, a seat that had not yet been taken. I scrambled towards it and claimed it. About 15 minutes later, when everyone else was on the bus, we head out towards Bonners Ferry. Dennis, one of our soccer players, found out that he had left his shinguards at home. As I had an extra pair, I gave him the shinguards and all was well, even though the shinguards I gave him were my old ones that had cracks in them. Hey, they’re better than nothing. We arrived at Bonners Ferry City and got lost looking for the field. The bus driver stopped at the gas station to ask for directions while some of the more desperate soccer players from our team decided to make a run for the restroom. We arrived at the Bonners Ferry High School after we got the directions and got our gear on. Nobody needed any cleats so I decided I would wear both pairs of cleats, one from one pair on one foot and one from the other pair on my other foot. I looked quite trendy and mismatched at the same time, but at least I didn’t have bright yellow shoes like one guy from the Bonners Ferry team. The game started up and we played quite well. The final score was 5 to 3 but it would have been 5 to 4 if the ref wouldn’t have called an offsides on a throw-in and 4 to 4 if the ref actually called a well-deserved offsides for the other team. This was one of the best games that we’ve played so far, and even though I tackled and hurt many of their players, I have not gotten a foul called on me once. Never in the history of my soccer playing years have I gotten a foul called on me and I have yet to get one called. After the game, we wanted to stop at a restaurant that had a Play-Place but coach didn’t like the idea. We told him that we would call him “Henry”* if he didn’t listen and he didn’t listen. He sent us in to Arby’s instead and we ate some food. After eating, we got on the bus again and gave coach a nice big “Henry” treatment. Hopefully, he’ll let us in to a Play-Place the next time we ask for one. When we arrived back at school, I got into my car and drove back home, ready to finish up some homework so I wouldn’t have any left on Sunday. I got some of it done when I arrived back home and then I went to sleep at 9:30 or so.

*Henry is a fun game for those who aren’t Henry. The Henry gets chosen randomly and unanimously by the people involved and the person who is given the title of Henry will get a special treat. Henry is a person that you have not seen in a long time and once you see him, you are overcome with joy and pounce on him/her screaming, “Henry!” When done with a busload of people, the result becomes a dogpile on Henry making him/her completely immobile and sometimes making him/her have great pains afterwards. Repeat multiple times on a long bus ride for more fun.
